INTRASEA is an interregional project developing the inland waterways in the Baltic Sea region with partners from Sweden, Finland, Germany, Poland, Lithuania and Russia.

The INTRASEA project will be focusing on:

  • Developing the EU transport policy regarding inland waterways
  • Develop tools for economical and environmental justifications for infrastructure projects
  • Developing the integration of spatial planning
  • Networking for international sub-regional/European inland waterway cooperation
  • Developing and disseminating possibilities to use inland waterways for tourism

Upcoming inland navigation congress in Vienna
The central theme of the conference will be the Communication of the
European Commission entitled “An Integrated European Action Programme for
Inland Waterway Transport”, which will be published by the end of 2005. read more

Baltic Sea Region's dependence of waterborne transport to inland markets
Within the projects WP 2 "Regional Intersectorial Strategies" the work has started to analyse the regional dependence of the inland waterways in the Baltic Sea Region. Click on the link below to read the country reports.

Inland Waterways in the Russian Federation
In March 2005 the Russian Ministry of Transport presented a Transport Development Strategy until 2010. A summary of the development potential for the inland waterways are described in the article "Russian Federation Transport policy and strategy addressing waterborne transport for inland markets"

INTRASEA - Vision 2020
The inland waterways vision consists of seven items high-lightening subjects as logistic strategies becoming regional without national boundaries, all year round short sea shipping and inland navigation including the western part of Russia.
